June Update From The Garage Learning

JUNE 16, 2021

Ryan Hickey

Dear Backers of The Garage Learning,

We can’t believe that it’s June, and summer is already here! We’re excited to share a few updates with you about how the project is developing:

  • Jägermeister Drop-Ins
  • Jägermeister Scholarship Winners Announcement
  • Learning Kit Software Announcement
  • Social Learning Platform Preview
  • Growing the Team
  • Weekend Workshops
  • Pre-orders for Learning Kits and Courses

We’re so excited to continue hosting Jägermeister Drop-Ins. Our founder Steve Gitalt has led three fun and interactive classes so far. Topics have included lighting for food photography, lighting for beverages, and how to begin a career as a creative entrepreneur. These courses ran live on April 9th, May 13th, and June 7th. In case you missed them, you can view them on our website here, or on our YouTube channel here. We’ll be going live with one of these every month, so watch for updates on our social media and in our emails. These drop-ins are your chance to ask Steve questions about Visual Engineering, and preview some of the kinds of material we’ll be covering in our courses.

Our partnership with Jägermeister also extends to our courses. We announced the twenty winners of our #SAVETHENIGHT Scholarship on May 7th. These lucky winners will be receiving over $1,000 worth of free courses and kits from The Garage Learning. See the winners here.

We’ve got a huge announcement regarding the software that will be used in all of our Learning Kits. We’ll be using Flair 7: Garage Edition from Mark Roberts Motion Control! Designed to give exceptional command over camera movement, Flair precisely controls up to 500 axes of motion, and is fully compatible with all of our learning kits. This is the same software used on large-scale robotic motion control rigs. Flair is the tool that makes your vision reality.

Steve will also be hosting a live demo of some of our kits on June 22nd. We’ll be giving updates on social media and over email, so stay tuned.

One of the coolest elements of The Garage Learning’s educational portal is our Social Learning integration from Adobe. This empowers our students to participate in a global community of creators, sharing their work with their peers for feedback and advice. Check out a preview here.

Meet Zena, our Producer. Zena is a creative producer originally from South Africa and holds an MBA in Leadership and Sustainability. She strives for collaboration and evolution in the TV and Film industry and loves talking about AI and space exploration. She has worked for clients such as History Channel and Time Warner and in 2020 she directed her award winning documentary about exploration on Mars featuring NASA scientists, Will There Be Dancing.

We are excited to launch our first Weekend Workshop, and have successfully filled all the seats for June. There are still seats available for our July 23 - 25 and August 13 - 15 sessions. We’ll also be announcing future dates soon. Our attendees will also have access to special accommodation deals at cool hotels in Brooklyn and Manhattan. Get more information and sign up here.

We’ve shot hours and hours of our courses, and we’re working hard to hit our launch deadlines. We’re shooting, editing, and finalizing classes, and our developers are completing our learning platform. Lighting, Production, Cinematography, Post-production, and Visual Engineering are all in varying stages of development, with more to come. We expect everything to be ready for launch at the end of this summer. Keep a look out for updates here and from our social media.

We know many of you still have questions, so please feel free to reach out to us at info@thegaragelearning.com. We thank you for your continued support, and look forward to making cool videos with you soon!
